Who acts when play needs limits
Gambling costs money, and winning is never certain. Limits work best when each party knows its part. The player decides the budget and the time. Our team applies the controls that the player asks for. Independent organisations help where the player or a family needs more than a limit.
What the player does
Before playing
- Decide an amount you can afford to lose without effect on your living costs.
- Divide it by the period you choose, a week or a month.
- Deposit only that amount, and do not top up once it is gone.
During play
- Decide the length of the session before you sign in and stop when it ends.
- Keep gambling money apart from money for living costs.
- Avoid sessions when tired, upset or under the influence of alcohol.
After play
- Read the transaction history of the account once a week; it gives a factual picture of the money and time spent.
- Leave the site for a day after a session that went badly.
Warning signs that call for action
| Sign | Example |
|---|---|
| Spending beyond the budget | Depositing money meant for bills or rent |
| Chasing losses | Raising stakes to win back what was lost |
| Loss of time control | Playing longer than planned, or instead of sleeping |
| Concealment | Hiding the extent of play from family |
| Borrowing | Using credit or loans to fund play |
One sign is a reason to review your play. Several together are a reason to stop and seek help.
What our account tools do
We accept players aged 18 or over only, and we do not encourage play to recover losses. On request, our support team applies the controls listed here and confirms them in writing.
Deposit limits
A limit on what you can deposit in a day, a week or a month. Limits are set in the account through our support team, and any later change follows the rules of the account.
Breaks
A break closes access for a period you choose. During the break we send no marketing messages.
Permanent closure
You can ask us to close the account for good. We then stop marketing and do not reopen the account for you to resume play. Closure applies to our site only.
Our own intervention
Our team may contact a player whose pattern of deposits or session length gives cause for concern, and may restrict an account if we believe play is causing harm. A player may decline contact, and we still set any limit or break asked for.
Bonuses and pressure
A bonus carries wagering and a time limit, which can create pressure to keep playing. A bonus is never a reason to add funds. You may decline a bonus at the deposit stage and ask us to remove an active one.
What happens after you ask for a control
- You write to our support team through live chat or by email, naming the account and the control.
- We check that the request comes from the account holder.
- We apply the control in the account.
- We confirm in writing what was set and from when.
- The control stays in place until its period ends or until you ask for a change under the rules of the account.
A request for a break or a closure is never questioned or delayed by an offer of a bonus. We do not send promotions to an account while a break is in force, and we remove it from marketing lists when it is closed.
What a good week of play looks like
| Item | A measure you can set |
|---|---|
| Budget | One fixed sum for the week, deposited once |
| Time | A number of sessions with a fixed length |
| Rest | At least one day without any play |
| Review | One reading of the history on a fixed day |
| Stop rule | A loss level or a time at which the session ends |
These measures are for you to set and to keep. They do not depend on any feature of our site, so they remain available if you play elsewhere as well.
Barriers outside the site
- Use blocking software on phones and computers that stops gambling sites.
- Ask your bank whether it offers a block on gambling payments on your card.
- Remove saved cards from the browser and from the wallet of the device.
- Remove shortcuts to gambling pages from the home screen.
Independent help in Great Britain
| Organisation | What it offers |
|---|---|
| GamCare | Confidential helpline and chat for anyone affected by gambling |
| BeGambleAware | Information, self-assessment and guidance |
| Gamblers Anonymous | Peer meetings |
A relative who is concerned can contact GamCare for guidance. We discuss an account only with its holder, and we do not reopen a closed account because a third party asks. If you feel at risk of harming yourself, contact the emergency services or your doctor at once.
When feelings drive the session
Play that follows an argument, a bad day or a loss elsewhere tends to go beyond the budget. If you notice that you want to play in order to feel better, treat that as a reason to wait a day.
Minors
Keep minors away from your account: keep the password private, do not leave the account signed in and use parental controls on shared devices.
Asking us for a control
Use live chat in the account or write to [email protected] with the account name and the control you want. A request is recorded on the account and is not shared beyond the legal duties in our privacy notice.
